MDS #1

There was a woman who sent me money by mistake due to the wrong phone number (in France there is a system for transferring money using a phone number as a destination address). After getting informed from her call, I was also careful to check the bank balance before transferring the money back to her. "I know it's my fault, sorry to bother you. Now I'm only counting on your kindness to help me get my money back..." - she said earnestly in the phone call.

(Aside: The proper procedure is to check if the balance is well recorded in the account, and notify the bank staff (in France there is a 1-on-1 system: an bank consultant (conseilleur bancaire) follows one (or more) customers. The consultant monitors and communicates with customers whenever a need or problem arises, kind of a family doctor).

About a month later, I was surprised to see that I sent her back twice, meaning I lost money and it was my fault. After I transferred the money myself, her bank also asked my bank, following her request, to cancel the previously received transfer. I gave the permission when my bank consultant asked but that was misunderstood. I thought I was asking to approve the transfer I made myself (a double check from the bank), not for the original transfers. So I frantically called and texted her back to ask for a refund. Fortunately, from the beginning, she was a real person with an honest mistake, so she sent it back immediately, after 1 day checking with her bank to see whether the bank needed to intervene this time. Finally, we thanked each other, it seemed like everyone felt warm hearted rather than being bothered 🥰.

-- About My daily stories : a mini series of posts telling the life stories that I experience, often related to the moral aspect and I want to dedicate a place to honor nice gestures and kindness in life. A pretty flower can make a bright new day for one or more people in this crazy world. No one can teach anyone else about morality, but we always have the choice to be as kind as possible. I will also narrate in 3 languages (Vietnamese, English and French) to have multicultural perspectives because this is the environment I live in (a Vietnamese living in France loving to speak English 😁).
